Annual Voyage Logs for GI Illness
Annual Voyage Logs are chronological lists for cruise ships, cruise lines, and cruise ports. Particularly useful for "Armchair Epidemiologists", ship medical officers and passengers can cross-reference past occurrences of GI Illness on over 35,000 individual cruises with approximately 148,000 crew and passenger cases. All reported cases were diagnosed by a ship medical officer and reported to the CDC.
This information is particularly useful for ship medical officers researching past performance of a cruise ships with respect to port of embarkation and also to other ships in the same fleet at a particular point in time. Retrospectively, the information can also be used by any passenger stricken with GI Illness while onboard ship to help determine, but NEVER prove, the possible cause of their GI Illness.
Most likely, if a passenger contracted a GI Illness four days or more into the cruise, it's likely from a direct or indirect contact with either a passenger or crewmember on their cruise. And, by searching the Annual Voyage Logs, a passenger can determine whether GI Illness on that ship or in the particular port is either a common or unusual occurrence.
