This chart describes the incidence of Gastrointestinal Illness (GI) on a cruise ship for the stated calendar year. The annual average percentage rate of GI on the cruise ship is calculated by utilizing cruise ship 'self-reported' voyage data from the Centers for Disease Control. Ships are required to provide this information when one or more segments of the voyage 'touches' a U.S. controlled port.

Cruise ship data excluded from these studies:

  • Voyages with less than 20 passengers.
  • Voyage that terminate (disembark) in non-U.S. ports
  • Same day voyages (those without an overnight stay).

Complete Data Period: 2001-0101 to 2008-0119
Outbreak Data Period: 2001-0101 to 2007-1231
